18. nap / Day 18

The first half of the day contained a section of 13 and a half kilometers till Sahagún
picture 1

Before Csilla got there, she could count another province completed leaving Palencia behind her and entering into León
picture 2: At the  border of provinces Palencia and León

The new province doesn't bring new kind of landscape, it offers the same visually slightly unexciting, monotone stages for the pilgrims. After Sahagún, it was still a little more than 10 kilometers till Bercianos
picture 3

Csilla started today a little earlier than usual, so that she can reach Bercianos as soon as possible to have more time to rest. She felt she was near to the goal, when to her big surprise the road she was on suddenly ended at the edge of a forest. It turned out, that in Calzada the signs were probably not correct, and they lead her to a parallel path, since after some discovery she found the road she should have been on. The problem was that there was a fence between her and the road. And this fence didn't have a gate ... So it was for climbing.

The last kilometers were very hard, it was very hot at that time, Csilla was really looking forward to finally reach today's goal, which she managed to accomplish by 2pm.

17. nap / Day 17

Folytatódott az út a szinte teljesen fátlan egysíkú, monoton vidéken:

1.*

Az eredeti útvonal mentén a régi római úton, a Via Aquitanán 12 km-en keresztül ez a táj fogadja a zarándokokat:

2. Via Aquitana

During one of the rests of the day Csilla started to talk to another pilgrim. When the woman learned about the pain in Csilla's knee, she told that according to others somehow she could achieve healing effects by her hands, and asked if Csilla allowed her to try to help. Csilla of course said yes. It was a very interesting, special feeling and though Csilla doesn't think her knee is going to recover completeley, but she feels like it really helped.

The first half of the day passed very difficultly the kilometers got less very slowly. Later in good company, with talks it went a lot better, and finally they reached Terradillost. Then, however they had to face the fact that not only the first but also the second housing were full as a consequence of reservations. The next housing would have been 6 kilometers away, which
Csilla didn't want to go today for sure, so after some talks the hosts did make some space :)

Csilla is very happy that today's 26 km is also done, and although she stil cannot believe it but she completed more than 400 km and there is less than 400, so she passed half distance!

Zarándoklét / Being pilgrim

Mivel ma valami csodával határos módon sikerült negyed 4-re beérni a zarándokszállásra, így gondoltam a napi rutin (zuhany, kézzel mosás, lábápolás) után beiktatok egy kis netezést, hogy végre én is jelentkezzem.
Bár be kell vallanom, szerintem fantasztikus Hátterországom van, aki remekül adja Nektek a híreket... :))

Mit is?

Átélni, megélni sőt néha túlélni a mindennapokat... amikor mész 20-25-30km-t.
Olyan érzések, gondolatok, események, behatások érnek, amit nevezhetünk kis csodáknak is. A hétköznapi problémáid oly kicsinek tűnnek, s mindent olyan más szemmel tudsz nézni, amihez 100 Csernus is kevés lenne odahaza....

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since today I managed to reach my goal at 3:15 by some miracle, I thought that after the daily routine (shower, washing with hand, foot care), I spent some time on the net so that I also got in touch with you after so long.
Although I have to admit, I think I have a fantastic Background country who is doing a good job in delivering the news to you... :))

So now I would write a bit in general, not about specifically today, and mostly about the aspects of being a pilgrim. Because I think that's the most unimaginable for those who are not here with me, and "only" able to read about me.
I have been dreaming of being on the Way for years, I read a lot about it, in books, blogs, reviews on the net, I talked to people who went through it and yet ... yet I had no idea what it was and how it was going to be... Of course I knew, or rather I thought that I was aware of what I was going to undertake. I kept telling everyone that "yeah, of course it's gonna be difficult, but it should not be easy at all", etc ... BUT I never thought that it was actually going to be so damn difficult sometimes.

So then, a little about pilgrimage, and from now on under this and under pilgrim I mean today's pilgrims and not pilgrims with one strip shoe and one scrip known from the previous centuries. And not even the pilgrims in general, but today's pilgrims of the Camino, who I am too.
There are a lot people similar to me, who are yet so different on the Way... there are so many of us, despite I have not even reached the last 100 km which is a mass pilgrimage... Yet if I consider the world, there are so few of us. I think a Camino pilgrim and his/her actions and his/her reason for undertaking this challenge at all can be understand only by another "whacky". I'm lucky because I have great support behind me: my family and my friends, who truly support me, who accept that I am here, who are with me in spirit, who send energy and love to me, but I think even they cannot really understand it, it's only possible for those who are here and live through it.
Live through?! What exactly?

Live through, go through and sometimes even survive the everydays... when you go 20-25-30km. For some, it's all about that, it's just a sport achievement.... but even for me there are days when I only count the remaining kilometers and I forget to live the day. Yes there are hard, very hard days when it hurts, everything... inside and outside...
And there are days when you're just flying... in thought, in spirit and with that in your body as well ... it's fantastic. And there are mixed days... But if you pay attention, if you are open minded you can get something every day that is unforgettable.
From the outside it may seem sometimes, that there's a bunch of people who rise early in the morning, then go 20-30-40 km a day (yes, my performance is far below those of the big ones), wearily tumble into the first pilgrim accommodation no matter how it looks like (sometimes it is better that you don't see it .....) and sleep.
Of course, this is what happens from some point of view, but in the meantime there is so much time, you can spend concentrating only on yourself or the others. I'm touched by such feelings, thoughts, events, influences, which we can even call small miracles. Your everyday problems seem so small, and you can have so different view on things, which you wouldn't be able to achieve at home even with the help of 100 Csernus' (famous psychiatrist in Hungary).... and that's good.
As the days are changing, the landscape is changing, the people around you are changing, and yet everything is so unvarying because of the daily routine. But you change as well ... the daily routine falls into a sheer habit, and it serves only as a frame for your days, where with every single day you can improve, you can experience, you can be more .... much more.

So many people are in the Way, and yet so few. Pilgrims on the Camino is such a small community in the world and I feel to be greatly privileged that I can belong to this community....

Emelkedés: 80 m
Ereszkedés: 20 m

Megtett út: 377,7 km
Hátralévő út: 419,1 km

(Háttérország jelentés)

Továbbra is a Tierra de Campos végtelennek tűnő gabonamezői kísérik a zarándokokat.

1.*

A végeláthatatlan rónaságoknak köszönhetően a zarándokútnak ez a szakasza a legkeményebbek közé tartozik.

2.*

1.*

Castrejoriz után emelkedik az út egészen a 913 m magasan található Alto de Mostelares magasföldig, ahonnan pompás kilátás nyílik a környező vidékre.

2. Alto de Mostelares

Az utolsó 8 km-es szakasz Boadilla del Caminoig:

3.*

Épp most kaptam egy képet.

Though Csilla got tired by the end of day, all in all she felt much better today then yesterday, and her mood was much better also. So far I have not talked about the conditions in the housings, but something to be know is that often you can only tell they are practical meaning there is a mattress or in better cases a bed to be sleeping on, but the cleanness of the housings is often questionable. But today she found a housing which is not only clean but in fact very beautiful, so despite the beds had been reserved in advance and there was only free mattress available, Csilla was more than happpy to stay there.

I have just got a picture from her. I agree, it was worth to stay. Inspiste of the mattress, this is really the most beautiful housing so far.

Távolság: 25,8 km
Emelkedés: 20 m
Ereszkedés: 90 m

Megtett út: 301,8 km
Hátralévő út: 495,0 km

(Háttérország jelentés)

A tegnapi napot folytatva Csilla útja egy újabb nagyvárosba, Burgosba vezetett:

1.*

Continuing from yesterday Csilla arrived today another big town, Burgos.
picture 1 above

There are two roads leading to Burgos, the historical road which is going by an industrial area for 10 km, which is often avoided by pilgrims using public transportation. But there is another road through Castanares, which is more comfortable. Of course Csilla took this road, and compared to a lot of other pilgrims, she arrived to the old city of Burgos on foot. It is not a judge on others, but Csilla would like to complete every single metres of the Way on foot.

She took this picture at one outstanding building of Burgos, which is one of the most spectacular gothic architectural work, at Catedral de Santa Maria:
picture 2 above

Csilla didn't want to stay in such a big town anyway, but when she got to a pilgrim housing and saw the long queue, it made her feel sure about her decision to carry on until the next housing in Tardajos
picture 3 above

At the border of Burgos, Csilla met a woman from England, and they carried on together. They made friends with each other in no time at all, they talked a lot, and progressed so well together, that they went all the way to Tarjados with only a very short rest. Since Grace started in Burgos today, she moved forward, so they said goodbye here.

The first 3 hours of the day was hard like hell, not only her left knee but also her foot were hurting. During the day it got better, and she was again progressing really well afternoon. She just realized that it's not her physical strength or toughness which is gonna take her to Santiago, but her strength of will. Thanks to this strength of will she crossed the 300 completed km!

12. nap / Day 12

Villafranca Montes de Oca - Cardenuela

Távolság: 25,2 km
Emelkedés: 480 m
Ereszkedés: 390 m

Megtett út: 276,0 km
Hátralévő út: 520,8 km

(Háttérország jelentés)

A mai nap a Villafrancából indult rögtön egy hegyre tartó emelkedővel:

1.*

3.*

picture 2 above

The last three days took a lot from Csilla, she felt very tired from the very beginning of the day. The road to San Juan de Ortega was the most tormenter 12 km of her life. Still it was her who kept encouraging a fellow pilgrim who was bearing the brunt of the stage even worse. And "of course" Csilla haven't stopped here, but carried on onto the stage originally planned for tomorrow, completing a significant part of it as well.

During the day, she met a lot of familiar faces, she even walked together with an older German man for a while. He wanted to go only to Agés, but he said they had been proceeded so well togeteher, he carried on as well until Atapuerca. Then he stopped there, and said goodbye with tear in his eyes, because he feelt, they would not meet again during the Way, considering how fast Csilla is progressing. It also turned out, that a group of pilgrims knowing about the mandatory rest in Logrono and the reason of it, called Csilla "Nice Crazy Girl", because you gotta be crazy for doing what Csilla was doing with the hurting knee day by day :-)

After taking a rest in Atapuerca Csilla felt, she still needed to carry on, no matter how tiring the day had been. She felt her body light, her bag weightless and felt to be strong to carry on. The next housing was 6,5 km away, and this was the first time she was completely alone, there was noone in front of her, noone behind her within sight, the land was also very desolate in some places even frightening, and for the first time during the Way Csilla was scared. Bit in the end she blissfully made it to Cardenuela.

With this achievement, Csilla left behind her this stage's significant uphill section to Matagrande plateau and the downhill part afterwards. She started the day with a hill and ended it with another, meaning she can continue on a relatively plain field. Inspite of feeling very tired from the beginning, Csilla completed again more than 25 km!

There was a very pleasant surprise waiting for her at the housing: she got a separate room with own bathroom alone! It might be that this was the reason she felt to carry on. After 11 days, she have the opportunity to have a night sleep alone!

2012. szeptember 8., szombat

11. nap / Day 11

(Background country reports)

It was still happening yesterday evening, that the pilgrims could participate in a special candle ceremony in Granon. After praying together, the pilgrims stood in a circle, holding each other's hands and giving a candle around one by one they spoke about the reason of their pilgrimage everyone in his/her native language. It was a very special moment for everyone giving huge energy to the pilgrims.

Today continued from this place originally till Bolerado:

Not long after starting Csilla reached the landmark indicating the beginning of the Castilla/Leon autonomous territory, as you could see in the previous entry. From here it was another 13 km till today's planned goal, Bolerado. However Csilla didn't stop here again, she just carried out:

During the day there is incredible heat, sun is burning so badly, that despite Csilla regularly used sun lotion, due to the continuous walking on fields without any shadows her left side, which was hit by the sun, has burned quite badly. After Bolerado there are pilgrim housings often, but Csilla would have loved to go all the way to  Villafranca Montes de Oca, because afterwards there is a very steep uphill section, and because there is so hot during the day, she would have loved to have the chance to start with that section tomorrow dawn, to be abel to keep it behind her by the time it gets hot. Reaching the housings one by one she was aksed to stay by other pilgrims, but after some rest she always kept going and in the end she did make it to the wished Villafranca Montes de Oca station.

Today was very tiring, but she could reach the goal which seemed so unreachable during the day, completing more than 28 km today and passing the total completed distance of 250 km!!
